Sunday Forum
Our adult forum meets during the 9:00 Christian Formation hour on Sunday mornings, between the 8:00 and 10:15 services. It’s led by all kinds of folks, including Pastor Stephen, other clergy and staff, and a host of lay leaders with expertise and gifts to share. Join us for this regular opportunity to grow in faith together.
Here’s our Sunday Forum schedule for fall 2026. The schedule may change, but if so, the most current schedule will always be posted here.
September 13: Roots and Realities of the Current Conflict in the Middle East. Join our own Lisa Pollard, professor emerita of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of North Carolina, for a look below the surface.
September 20: Living Water. Our Season of Creation this year encourages us to focus on water: how we use it, how we share and care for it. Deacon Phina Borgeson has organized this special session with guest presenter Christopher Kelley of Fish Friendly Farming.
September 27: Our Journey to Land Acknowledgment. In 2025 Incarnation adopted an official land acknowledgment statement, the fruit of several years of study and a special course led by Redbud Resource Group. Our Becoming Beloved Community team will lead a conversation about land acknowledgments and how we can cultivate more respectful, reciprocal relationships with the Indigenous people of our region.
October 4: Rototilling Paul's Letter to the Romans. The Letter to the Romans is one of the most theologically profound, important, and dense parts of the whole Bible. It may have been the single most important text in sparking the Protestant Reformation. How do we read it today? Our parishioner Ken Moholt-Siebert has been translating scripture passages from the original Greek for some years now and will offer us a fresh way in to Paul's famous letter.
October 11: Thoughts and Feelings: Breaking Negative Patterns. It's been said, "Don't believe everything you think." How can we help ourselves develop more resilience? Led by our own Grace Harris, a Marriage and Family Therapist and past director of Children and Family Services for the California Parenting Institute.
October 18: Fifty-Plus Years at Incarnation. A special session with our parishioner Barbara Avery on how her spiritual journey has intersected with Incarnation's history, interviewed by Stephen Shaver and Bill Glenn.
October 25: Spiritual Care in Public Service. Parishioners Sara Joslyn (a psychologist who serves many first responders) and Inese Heinzel (who has served as a Sonoma County law enforcement chaplain) will lead this session on how ministry intersects with demanding public service work.
November 1: Henry VII to Elizabeth: What Was It All About? Our Episcopal Prayer Book tradition owes much of its identity to a short time period in 1500s England. Come learn about how Catholic and Reformed strands intermingled to form the Anglican tradition between the reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. Led by parishioner Boyd Dyer.
November 8: Focus on Sunday Open Table Breakfast. Our Sunday Open Table is one of our most important and beloved ministries at Incarnation. Each week we serve a hot breakfast to 60-100 hungry neighbors. Allan Bolchazy and Anne West, members of our Open Table Steering Committee, will help us celebrate and learn more about this central Incarnation ministry.
November 15: Title TBD. This session will be led by parishioner Nathan Hemingway, who works in the tech industry and led a wonderful forum on AI and spirituality last spring. He's working on a follow-up session and will share more about the topic when it's ready.
November 22: Poetry Workshop. Led by our parishioner Kay Nilsson.
November 29: O Come, O Come Emmanuel. On this first Sunday of Advent, Stephen Shaver will lead this session on an ancient set of Advent prayers and how they speak to us today.
December 6: No Sunday Forum. Bishop Megan will be making her visit to Incarnation this Sunday, so we won't have a regular Sunday Forum session.
December 13: Our Lady of Guadalupe. Led by Bill Glenn.
December 20: A Presence in Prison. Reflections on prison ministry at San Quentin. Led by Bill Glenn.
