Sunday Open Table Breakfast
Every Sunday morning, our church's doors open at 6:00 a.m. to welcome more than a hundred of our neighbors in for a fresh-cooked breakfast. Most of our guests are from Santa Rosa's street community. At 6:00 all are invited in for hot coffee, oatmeal, and cereals. A full hot breakfast is served buffet-style at 7:00. As our guests finish breakfast they are offered a brown-bag lunch to take away for later in the day.
We do not just offer food. We sit and drink coffee with our guests. We recognize them as our siblings in Christ.
Volunteers involved in this ministry have gained personal insight into hunger and homelessness in our community and have been overwhelmed by the graciousness of our guests.
There are many ways to participate in this ministry, regularly or occasionally. Many don’t require getting up before sunrise on Sunday! You can be a shopper for food and supplies, prepare food at home or on Saturday mornings in our kitchen, help clean up after breakfast, donate money, lead a song on Sunday, help fundraise, write thank you notes to donors, help sort clothing.
In addition to volunteering, you can help support Open Table by donating needed items:
- City and county bus tickets
- Lightweight vinyl ponchos
- Vinyl tarps, personal size
- Jeans, gently used
- Jackets and parkas for cold weather
- Socks, new or gently used, especially white
- Tee shirts
- Underwear, new or gently used
- Gloves
- Caps, baseball or ski
These donations can be left at the church’s Welcome Center, 636 Cherry Street (off Mendocino Avenue), Monday-Thursday, 9:00 a.m.-noon. Please do not leave donations at other times.
Tax deductible donations by check or cash are gratefully received. If donating in person, please identify your donation for Sunday Open Table by attaching a note or writing “Open Table” in a check's memo line. To donate online, simply select "Give to Open Table Donations."
