A Pastoral Care Wish List
How many of us still make wish lists this time of year? By the time you are in your 20’s, you are used to fulfilling your own wishes most of the time, even if it’s only for a Peppermint White Hot Chocolate at your fave coffee shop. Now it’s the children and the grands who nag us with their lists.
Well, surprise. I have an adult wish list, or better said, one for your pastoral care coordinator. The list is by me, but ultimately, we will ALL benefit. So, here I go… (Sung to the tune of the 12 Days of Christmas)
- One person to secure rides to and from church for people who are transportation-challenged.
- Two people to send out get well, thinking of you, sympathy and even birthday cards to our congregation.
- Three people to build and coordinate two phone trees. (Deciduous trees that have dropped all of theirs are best for this project. LOL). One tree is to stay in touch with our most mature seniors that rarely or never make it to church now. Another tree is to contact all members and friends in case of a disaster.
- Four knowledgeable, skilled people to lead grief or caregiver groups for people or to teach a class about Healthy Nutrition, or Estate Planning, etc.
- Five people to help seniors prepare Go Bags in case of a disruptive event.
I’ll stop there. Six geese-a-laying is not quite in the forefront of Imagine Incarnation, tho’ the eggs all over the courtyard could be a lot of fun, and perfect for Open Table prep. Since they are close to the ground, the children at Godly Play could be lots of help.
Back to the list…if Santa brought me all that, wow, that would be some full, and wiggly stocking!! Not only would I be delighted, but so would all the people whose lives you would touch, and then you would feel the satisfaction of Joy Delivery! Full Circle. All praise be to our Creator.
