Who are Daughters of the King?
“The Order of Daughters of the King” is an International Interdenominational Order for Woman and Girls, instituted by Margaret J. Franklin on Easter Eve, 1885 at the Church of the Resurrection, New York City. The order grew from an idea at a senior Bible Study, and today encompasses communicants in the Anglican, Episcopal, Lutheran (ELCA) and Roman Catholic churches in twenty-one countries. Members of the order undertake a “Rule of Life that incorporates a Rule of Prayer and a Rule of Service”. Reaffirming her promises at “Baptism and Confirmation, a Daughter pledges herself to a life-long program of prayer, service and evangelism, dedicated to the spread of Christ’s Kingdom and the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish.” (pg.7, NSG, 2016). We wear a modified Greek Fleury silver cross inscribed with the Latin phrase “Magnanimeter Crucem Sustine”, meaning, “with heart, mind and spirit uphold and bear the cross.” The FHS at the bottom of the cross means “For His Sake” (pg. 9, NSG, 2016).
