The story of the Transfiguration of Jesus appears in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. It can be seen as a foreshadowing of the glory of the resurrected Jesus as well as a revelation of Jesus' identity as the Son of God. It also hearkens back to Jesus' baptism, as once again God's voice is heard affirming Jesus as "my beloved Son."
Each Sunday in the Nicene Creed we proclaim Jesus as "God from God, Light from Light." On the mountain of the Transfiguration (traditionally identified as Mount Tabor), Jesus' disciples first saw him clothed in the glorious light of God.
