This Sunday, May 5: Rogation Sunday
What is Rogation Sunday? Traditionally, the Rogation Days are days of prayer that fall in the week leading up to Ascension Day. In Europe in the Middle Ages people observed the ceremony of "beating the bounds," when a procession of parishioners would march around the boundaries of the local parish and pray for its protection, well-being, and good harvest.
Today the Sunday before Ascension is often called Rogation Sunday and is a time of prayer for the local community and for the natural and cultivated environment, including all growing things.
This Rogation Sunday we will celebrate with a parish procession through the church grounds at the end of the 10:15 service, including stations at our new children's garden near the playground, our beloved heritage oak tree in the quadrangle, and our Resurrection Garden.
