The Maui Fire: the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii needs our help.
By now you have all heard about the disastrous fire in Maui. What you may not know is that the fire has devastated the Holy Innocents Episcopal church in Lahaina. The Right Reverend Robert L. Fitzpatrick, Bishop of the Diocese of Hawai'i reports on the fire:
It included our church, Holy Innocents, with roots back to a land grant from King Kamehameha V (and responsibility for the “foreigner’s cemetery”). The Sanctuary, vicarage, preschool and office are gone (as is the public elementary school next door).
The devastation that comes from a fire is an all too familiar experience for us here in Sonoma County and even more painful is watching another community go through it. We know the devastation and shock of a catastrophic fire and the urgent need for resources. We know what the coming days, months and years will look like. We also know the comfort of what community support, both locally and from afar, can bring to nurturing a sense of hope, survival, and healing. Let’s be that supportive community and give today or Sunday with a special offering. Your donations will go directly to The Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii.
