Thank You from Deacon Phina
Last Sunday we shared in a celebration of Phina Borgeson's fiftieth anniversary of ordination as a deacon. Below is a note of thanks from Deacon Phina.
Thank you, Friends, for sharing in the celebration of my fiftieth anniversary of ordination to the diaconate. The ikon will be a wonderful addition to the images in my home office; finding the right place for it might even give me an incentive to do a bit of much needed mucking out and rearranging.
Some of you have asked what difference marking this event will make in my life. Looking through decades of photos was a great review, but I don’t expect much to change. I’ll continue with some teaching and occasional preaching and serving. I flirt with the idea of more liturgical or hymn (words) writing as I continue to chair the group here working on litanies for prayers of the people.
In community ministry my hands-on work in gardening and gleaning is a little less every year. I’m hoping to find the right way to become more involved in the Community Seed Exchange, based on St. Stephen’s campus, as they are short on volunteers. I’d love to talk about their work with anyone else who’s interested. Half of the monetary gifts I received will go to them, with the rest providing me some funds toward continuing education.
You are all among the many wonderful people who have encouraged me since the community at Camp Galilee and the words of the charge to the deacon in the Prayer Book called me on this journey so long ago. Thank you.
Phina Borgeson
