Sunday, September 1 - October 6: Season of Creation
"Praise be to you, my Lord, through our Sister, Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us." --St. Francis
In recent years, many Christians of different traditions have begun setting aside a portion of the early fall as a special time of prayer for God's Creation and honoring God as Creator of all. This year, our Bishop Megan Traquair has approved the use of a special set of worship resources during this time.
The Season of Creation begins on September 1 and lasts through the Feast of St. Francis (which falls on October 4, but at Incarnation we will keep the celebration through the following Sunday, October 6, when we have our Blessing of Animals). It is not a distinct liturgical season of its own, but rather a special time for focused prayer within the Season after Pentecost (similar to the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity during the Season after Epiphany, or Ascensiontide during Easter Season).
Our Season of Creation celebration at Incarnation this year will include special prayers and service music in our 10:15 liturgy, plus a number of special events organized by our Green Team (please watch for a special update from them in an upcoming edition of News & Notes).
