September 15-October 15: Hispanic Heritage Month
The time from September 15 through October 15 is celebrated in the United States as National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to honor and highlight the cultures and contributions of Latin Americans of all different backgrounds.
This Sunday, September 24: Zeke Guzman, president of Latinos Unidos del Condado de Sonoma, will be our guest leader for Sunday Forum during the 9:00 education hour. He will share about his experience as a Latino leader in Sonoma County and ways we can grow in partnership with our local Hispanic and Latine communities.
You may notice a special petition in our Prayers of the People during this month as well, composed by our Prayers of the People ministry group (led by Deacon Phina Borgeson).
We give thanks this month for the many gifts of our church's Hispanic and Latine members, friends, and neighbors, and we pray for increasing friendship, justice, and respect among all peoples.
O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. ("For the Whole Human Family," Book of Common Prayer p. 815)
