Karl Kadie Testimony
We first came to the Church of the Incarnation in the Spring of 2020. We had moved from the South Bay to Santa Rosa at the end of 2019 and were actively seeking a faith community. Our intent was to sample multiple churches and then choose one. By the time we settled in from the move and were prepared to check out churches, the world was in COVID lockdown. We saw Incarnation was holding Zoom services, and we logged on. To me, it was a revelation. Over 120 people attended. It was a vibrant service, well organized, and touched a diverse range of people. We continued to attend during COVID and before long, we pledged. I used to joke that we belong to a church we’ve never set foot in.
More than 40 years ago, Carol and I were married in an Episcopal Church. I was attracted because it had sacraments, a strong liturgy, and give and take during the service. It embraced different spiritual beliefs, reached a broad and diverse community, and was proactive in helping the local community.
When we finally set foot in Incarnation, I felt we were immediately welcome and safe. I love Stephen Shaver’s sermons and leadership. Because we attend the 8:00 o’clock service, I see how Open Table directly impacts Santa Rosa. I always learn something new at the weekly forums. I enjoy the feasts. And I find the educational and spiritual events to be uplifting.
Another reason I appreciate Incarnation is how it differs from our recent history with the Episcopal Church. Our Episcopal church in the South Bay had declined in membership and was unable to provide its fair share to the diocese. When COVID hit, the church lost over half its funding, and fell into such disrepair the facility was un-usable. The diocese closed the church and sold the property.
Today, my spiritual home is the Church of the Incarnation. I appreciate its large membership, strong funding, and community engagement. I’m relieved to see the ongoing attention to buildings and grounds. This is a healthy church and I truly enjoy being a part of it.
