Rest in Peace: Former Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold, 1937-2023
from Bishop Megan Traquair
Dear Friends,
I ask you to join me in giving thanks to God for the life of Bishop Frank Tracy Griswold. He died on Sunday, March 5, and was 85 years old. He served as Bishop of Chicago from 1987 to 1998. From 1998-2006, Bishop Griswold served as the 25th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. The Episcopal News Service has a fine article about his life and service here.
I remember him chiefly as a man of deep spirituality who was able to bring a profound sense of God and God's graceful purposes to the gatherings he led.
He had a commitment to ecumenical work and helped to form our full-communion ties to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. I give thanks for his servant heart and his long years of faithful ministry.
In our small church many of us have stories with or about Bishop Griswold. I invite you to share them on our Facebook page.
Bishop Megan
