FROM THE GREEN TEAM: Help eliminate food waste and support our community!
Wanted! Your surplus homegrown produce or unexpired pantry goods to share. Home gardeners and others who have more fresh produce than they can use are invited to bring it to Incarnation’s Produce Exchange beginning Sunday, July 30. Feel free to trade for items you don’t have or simply take what you will eat. All leftover food will be donated to Open Table.
Where? Look for the Produce Exchange Counter in Farlander Hall. The exchange will run on Sundays through the Season of Creation (Sept. 3-Oct. 4),
Why? Food waste is a major problem. According to Ample Harvest, we waste approximately 1.3 billion tons of food each year globally (FAO 2013) while many people do not have access to adequate and nutritious foods. Home garden food loss totals approximately 11 billion pounds of excess
harvest from backyard gardens and community gardens are wasted annually — enough to feed 28 million Americans.
We can do our part by sharing our bounty instead of wasting it and by raising awareness of the issue. To learn more:
