Join us to commemorate this feast day with a simple Holy Eucharist in the church at 12:00 p.m. All are welcome. Since St. Matthew's Day (September 21) falls on a Saturday this year, we will celebrate the feast on the previous day, Friday, September 20.

Matthew, one of the Twelve who were Jesus' closest followers, is traditionally credited with compiling the gospel that bears his name. The Gospel of Matthew is a revision of Mark's gospel, with over 90% of Mark also appearing in Matthew. But Matthew adds much more material, including many of the best-known parables and teachings of Jesus. Matthew's gospel shows a strong concern for the history of Israel, portraying Jesus as a second Moses. The famous Sermon on the Mount and the story of the Magi both appear only in Matthew.
