February 11: Shrove Sunday
On the Last Sunday after Epiphany we get ready for the holy season of Lent with a last big party. Join us after the 10:15 service for:
- A pancake lunch with all the trimmings, $8 recommended donation per person. Please sign up here so we can get a headcount, and to let us know if you're able to help as a volunteer.
- The burial of the Alleluias. During the season of Lent the joyful shout of "Alleluia" (Hebrew for "Praise the Lord!") is omitted from all our liturgies. So to help us say goodbye to the Alleluia, we roll up our big Alleluia banner, put it in a capsule, and bury it under the floorboards of the church for the six weeks of Lent.
- The burning of the palms. The ashes for Ash Wednesday are traditionally made from the palms used in the previous year's celebration of Palm Sunday. People often take the blessed palms home and put them somewhere in their homes to serve as a sign of blessing. You're invited to bring your (now-dried) palms back to church and we'll burn them during our celebration.
