Epiphany Dinner Eucharist: Thank you!
"Star of wonder, star of night ..." Over 75 Incarnationians packed Farlander Hall this past Monday evening for our Dinner Eucharist for the Feast of the Epiphany. We began in the courtyard with prayer, scripture, and song around a fire, then processed to the door where we blessed chalk and inscribed the lintel with this year's Epiphany blessing. Next we marched into a sparkling decorated Farlander Hall, led by our three costumed singing Magi.
We lined up for plates of delicious beef or veggie stew, mashed potatoes, salad, and bread. Over dinner we heard the gospel reading and shared table conversations about the story by way of a sermon. We lifted up our Prayers of the People, shared the Peace, and then gave thanks over the holy Bread and Wine and shared Communion with one another at our tables. Along the way there was a poetry reading, more singing, a crafts table where you could make your own paper crown, and of course dessert!
We're grateful to Debbie Grove, Sue Hicks, Phina Borgeson, and everyone else who organized, cooked, and served our meal; to Pamela Layton, Nancy Wegge, and others who decorated Farlander so beautifully; to Diana Ardley, Diane Schoenrock, and Barbara Avery, who have led this meal in past years and helped support this year's planning team even while they were away this year; to Melissa and Ken Moholt-Siebert and Scott Hafner and Bill Glenn for donating wine; to Jun Kim for leading music (especially while feeling under the weather); to Rebecca Kendall, Jonathan Kendall, and John Nykamp for being our Magi; to Eric Ramsey and Robert Hauser for lots of setup and cleanup work; and to everyone else who stepped up to help make the evening happen. It was a special celebration of this glorious night.
