Energy Efficiency Assessments Round 2
Incarnation was one of twelve more churches assessed throughout Northern California to support the Dioceses' goal to reduce our carbon footprint and achieve carbon neutrality by 2030
Colby May, Energy for Purpose Founder and energy efficiency expert, and Bob Wohlsen, Commission on the Environment Project Coordinator and Incarnation member were warmly welcomed last Monday by Steve Layton, Building and Grounds Chair, John Nykamp, Treasurer, and Miriam Casey, Incarnation Green Team member and Convener of the Commission on the Environment when they arrived last Monday to conduct the energy efficiency assessment.
Steve Layton led Colby on a tour of all campus buildings to assess their energy efficiency. The survey includes visiting the various rooms in the buildings and noting the type of lighting, windows, weather stripping, and insulation. With his handheld thermal imaging camera, he views wall and roof systems as well as electrical panels. He also notes the age, condition, and efficiency of all energy using equipment such as hot water heaters, furnaces, air conditioners, and air handlers. He took special note of Incarnation’s large solar array.Colby will use this information to create a detailed energy efficiency assessment report for Incarnation.
The information in the reports from this assessment will enable Incarnation to develop an action plan to become even more energy efficient.
The Commission on the Environment is creating a webinar, to be broadcast this Fall, about developing an Action Plan to accomplish the recommendations in the Energy Efficiency Assessment.
Plans are underway to conduct Round Three of the assessments this Fall.Several churches have indicated their readiness to participate in this round.
