Our Green Team's Earth Day Presentation from Sunday, April 14
In the Easter Season, we not only rejoice in Christ’s resurrection, we also celebrate the new life we see around us in creation. Earth Day is April 22 and falls within the Easter Season and the traditional festival of Rogationtide.
On April 14 the Green Team hosted a viewing of the short film called THE MAN WHO PLANTED TREES, an allegory about one man’s efforts to plant trees in a barren valley, and the extraordinary impact it had on the environment and the people who lived there. Susan Prier provided a grounding of the importance of trees and wood from the Old and New Testaments, illustrated in beautiful classical art. After the film, there was meaningful dialogue about the sequence of events in the story, the parallel to the story of Lazarus emerging from the tomb and Jesus rising from the dead, as well as the message about the power of individual effort in environmental stewardship. We described the value of trees to fight climate change, and provided additional resources for those who want to plant trees and information about California Arbor Week.
For those who were not able to attend the forum but would like to view the film, it can be accessed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epTqUnKsuUY.
