This Sunday, June 23: Celebrating Deacon Phina's 50 Years, and Gift Opportunity
This coming Sunday, June 23, we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Deacon Phina Borgeson's ordination to the diaconate. Deacon Phina will be preaching and serving at the Sunday liturgies on the 23rd, and after the 10:15 service we'll have a festive potluck in her honor. You're invited to bring a locally sourced food to share. If you would like to contribute toward a parish gift toward Deacon Phina, you are welcome to do so at the link below. Click the "Give To" menu and scroll down to "Deacon Phina Gift." Please note that these are not tax-deductible donations but personal gifts.
Give To Deacon Phina's Gift Fund
Deacon Phina has been a leader in promoting the restoration of the diaconate as a full and equal order throughout the church--a movement from which Incarnation has richly benefited through the years. She was also one of the pioneers of Total Ministry, an approach to congregational life centered on redeveloping congregations as ministering communities, rather than communities gathered around a minister. She has served on the staff of the Dioceses of Nevada and Los Angeles and was the president of the North American Association for the Diaconate from 1987 to 1991. In 2000 she moved to Sonoma County, and has served with a number of congregations in our deanery, including as Redwood Cluster ministry developer for three years. Her community ministry here has focused on food systems, the place where ecological concern and human community wellbeing intersect.
