About the Art Project
by the artist, Mario Uribe:
The idea behind the project is to bring this community together and create a temporary sculpture for the church that is symbolic of the meaning and power of collective effort, energy and prayer. Each of the hanging circles reflect color and light, as well as the collaborative effort and hopes of the community. This type of activity is healing and inspiring. Participants expressed their messages of gratitude, hope, and love upon a circle. It is their gift to the community at large.
For this project, I was inspired by the architecture of the church itself, especially the inviting stained glass windows. Each circle may represent our hopes, prayers and wishes, but the “Windows” become a portal for us to glimpse into ourselves.
This 3-D maquette demonstrated how the window sections might be placed within the two planters outside the church.
Universally, a circle is considered to be a positive symbol of unity, wholeness, the life cycle, our planet, the universe, or a moment – to name a few. Personally, circles are prayers of hope; they bring people together.I like art that brings diverse people together in its creation, inspires them to collaborate, and expresses the community’s vision, prayers, and hopes.
